Our Mission

Troop 18’s goal is to facilitate the growth and development of tomorrow’s leaders through leadership training, outdoor skills, and career exploration. We accomplish this through the scouting programs Merit Badges, Rank Advancement, and Leadership Positions

Merit Badges

When Working on a merit badge, Scouts learn about sports, crafts, science, trades, business, and future careers. There are more than 130 merit badges currently available to earn, many of which go over possible future careers that the Scouts may pursue after High School, in addition to learning about many constructive hobbies and life skills.

Rank Advancement

Rank Advancement is the process by which Scouts of the BSA progress from rank to rank and is the method by which we promote and encourage the ongoing involvement and commitment that keeps members coming back for more. Scouting provides a series of surmountable obstacles and steps in overcoming them through the advancement method. Scouts plan their own advancement and progress at their own pace as they meet each challenge. Scouts are recognized and rewarded for each achievement, which helps them gain self-confidence.

Leadership Positions

No successful organization runs with only one person running the the show. Scouts are given the opportunity to learn leadership skills by taking leadership position within the Troop to help keep everything running smoothly. Troops within the BSA are a Scout runed organization with adult leadership mentoring and guiding scouts on obstacles or challenged they may encounter. By working together as a team, scouts learn how to adapt to leadership roles and how to best work together to accomplish their goal.

“Teach Scouts not how to get a living, but how to live.”

“We must change boys from a ‘what can I get’ to a ‘what can I give’ attitude.”

Robert Baden-Powell, Founder of The BSA
